There are only a few staples of men’s wardrobes that are non-negotiable. You can pick out what kinds of jeans you want to wear, or you can decide not to wear jeans at all. Some men wear hats, but these days, most don’t. You can pick and choose many different things; however, if you’re planning on attending any kind of professional or formal event, you’re going to need a good suit. And if you work in an office or field where it’s required, you’re going to need a few good suits. Many people go to the nearest menswear store and buy them off the rack—but that’s not a very effective way to shop for a suit. Since you’ll only be buying a few suits, you need to find some that fit incredibly well. If you’ve ever worn an ill-fitting suit, you know how uncomfortable it can be. They either hang awkwardly or they constrain your movement. Made-to-measure suits are designed to your specific measurements. They’ll fit perfectly as soon as you get them. Here’s how it works:

Call the Tailor

Your path to made-to-measure suits begins by calling a tailor. When you call a tailor from a great company, they will send a tailor out to you. The tailor will come to your house or office and take all of your measurements. Usually this doesn’t take very long. You could actually get measured for your suits on your lunch break.

The tailor will also come with examples of different kinds of fabrics that are available for your suit. Certain fabrics hang different or fit differently, so the tailor can advise you on different kinds of fabrics and which one would be best for your needs.

Fabrics

The cut of a suit, which is what you are measured for, is incredibly important. You will also pick a certain kind of fabric for your suit. Different fabrics hang differently, and they are appropriate for different kinds of suits. For example, if you are buying a suit for an outdoor wedding during the summer, you’re going to want a very lightweight suit that is very breathable. If you’re buying a suit for everyday use or for wearing through the winter, you might want a high-quality wool suit. Wool isn’t appropriate, however, if it rains very often, and so forth. Your tailor will help you choose what kinds of fabrics are right for your made-to-measure suits.

When you’re looking for a suit, you want to make sure that it fits very well. The best way to make sure that your suit fits very well is to call a tailor who will measure you before ever sewing the suit. The suit will be made for you and only you.
